You earn the certification rating of "Open Water". The ideal package for anyone who plans to dive a resort area, or in relatively shallow, clear calm water. (National standards consider the maximum depth for this rating 60 feet.) Training includes 6 class and pool sessions, unlimited pool and equipment use, and the 3 day weekend diving trip. Everything for this trip is provided except transportation and site entry fees, if any. (You may also split this trip and go on two separate weekends.)
We consider this level of training a "Basic" package. After this certification your skills, abilities, and comfort level will be well above that achieved through most other Open Water programs. You will be qualified to dive relatively mild environments without immediate supervision. This would include the most common types of dives made at diving resorts, or other relatively still, calm waters, to depths recommended not to exceed 50 to 60 feet. Don't let the label on a certification card mislead you.
